Blockchain.com seeks CFTC licenses as Starknet considers an L1 future and DWF-linked firms take BitGo to court.

Blockchain.com seeks a direct route into regulated U.S. markets. The company has applied to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for designated contract market and futures commission merchant licenses, according to Decrypt. The approvals would allow it to operate an event-contract venue and offer crypto derivatives to U.S. retail and institutional clients. Today, the company reaches those products abroad through partners including Polymarket and Hyperliquid. A filing is not an approval, but the move adds Blockchain.com to the race for regulated market infrastructure as the boundary between prediction markets, derivatives and state gambling rules is tested. Starknet is weighing a path beyond Ethereum L2 status. Starknet said it is actively considering becoming an independent layer-1 network, with a 2027 target to become fully quantum-resistant. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson told Decrypt that an L1 could give the network more control over security upgrades rather than waiting for Ethereum's core roadmap. STRK traded near $0.073 after rising about 20% in 24 hours, but the announcement is a strategic option rather than a confirmed migration. The important question is whether an independent chain can preserve the liquidity, developer base and security assumptions that made the Ethereum-linked version useful. Source: Decrypt
A $141 million lawsuit puts token lockups under a microscope. DWF Maas and Falcon Digital, two firms tied to market maker DWF Labs, sued custodian BitGo in London's High Court. They allege BitGo sold discounted Falcon Finance and ESPORTS tokens before their lockups expired, hurting the value of the firms' remaining holdings. The claims have not been proven, and BitGo's response will matter, but the dispute is a reminder that OTC token deals depend on more than a vesting schedule. Custody terms, transfer controls and the ability to monitor wallet movements can shape the real protection behind a lockup. Source: Decrypt
