A Coldcard wallet flaw drained $38 million in a 25-minute sweep An attacker emptied 594 BTC, about $38 million, from Coldcard hardware wallets in a single 25-minute sweep. Coinkite, which makes Coldcard, urged Mk3 users to move their funds after flagging a possible weakness in how some devices generated seed phrases, and said an AI tool helped surface the issue. The investigation is ongoing and not every Mk3 is confirmed affected, but the pattern points to predictable key generation rather than a network exploit. Self-custody is the base layer under every onchain strategy, and a seed that can be reconstructed breaks every position downstream of it. This is the risk that never appears in an APY number. RWA perpetual futures volume nearly matched Bitcoin perps Perpetual futures on real-world assets reached 99.2% of Bitcoin perp volume across Hyperliquid and Binance, with tokenized equities leading the trading. A year ago RWA perps were a rounding error next to Bitcoin. The jump shows traders now treat tokenized stocks and other real-world exposures as first-class onchain markets rather than experiments. For DeFi yield, deeper perp markets mean more funding-rate and basis opportunities, and more collateral flowing into the venues that host them. Source: Cointelegraph, published July 31. Jupiter Lend leads Solana USDC yields as chain TVL holds near $4.8 billion On Solana, Jupiter Lend is paying the top verified USDC rate at 5.05% on roughly $427 million in deposits, ahead of Kamino's main USDC market near 3.7%. Solana DeFi TVL sits around $4.77 billion, flat over the past week. With the majors selling off on the day, stablecoin lending is where the steady onchain return still lives. The gap between the top rate and the rest is a reminder to check where a yield actually comes from before you chase the biggest number. Source: DeFiLlama and yieldwire data, live. Ethereum enters its second decade Ethereum passed its tenth birthday, ten years after the network went live in July 2015. The milestone lands after a turbulent year for the Ethereum Foundation, marked by leadership changes and debate over its direction. The network that introduced smart contracts now settles most of DeFi and the bulk of tokenized assets, even as Solana and others compete for activity. For yield, Ethereum remains the deepest venue for lending, restaking and staking derivatives, and its roadmap still sets the terms most other chains follow. Source: CoinDesk, published July 30. Circle won a New York trust charter for USDC Circle secured a limited-purpose trust charter from New York's Department of Financial Services for Circle Internet Trust Company, adding a state layer on top of the national trust approval it received from the OCC. The dual approval tightens oversight of how USDC reserves are held and reported. Clearer rules on reserves matter for anyone parking capital in stablecoin yields, because the risk in a stable asset is almost always the issuer and the backing, not the peg on a calm day. Bitcoin and ether slipped, but the month is still the strongest in a year Bitcoin traded near $63,600 and ether near $1,880, both down on the day as equities rallied and the broader crypto market stayed on track for its best month in a year. The soft session followed US PCE data showing the first monthly drop in six years, a reading that fits the Fed's year-on-year expectations and eases some pressure on rate-sensitive assets. For DeFi, a cooler inflation path is the variable under stablecoin yields: the slower rates come down, the longer tokenized T-bill and lending rates stay elevated.
