SpaceX S-1 Reveals $1.29B Bitcoin Treasury
SpaceX filed its S-1 on May 20 ahead of a potential listing under ticker SPCX. Buried in the financials: 18,712 BTC held as of March 31, with a cost basis of $661M ($35,324 average per coin) and a fair value of roughly $1.29B. That puts SpaceX among the top ten corporate Bitcoin holders globally. Under FASB fair-value rules that took effect late 2025, the position will flow through quarterly earnings, giving public markets their first direct read on how BTC volatility hits a company valued north of $1.7T. The filing also detailed X's push into payments infrastructure and a $45B compute deal with Anthropic running through 2029. Source: Bitcoin Magazine, CryptoTimes.
Solana's Alpenglow Consensus Overhaul Goes Live on Testnet
Anza launched the Alpenglow test cluster on May 11, marking the biggest consensus change in Solana's history. The upgrade replaces TowerBFT and Proof of History with two new components: Votor, a lightweight voting protocol that finalizes blocks in one or two rounds, and Rotor, an optimized block propagation layer using erasure coding. Target confirmation time drops from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, with sub-100ms possible under strong network conditions. Co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said mainnet could arrive as early as next quarter. For yield farmers, faster finality means tighter liquidation windows and more responsive oracle updates. Wall Street Keeps Piling Into Solana
The institutional migration to Solana continued through May. B2C2 (SBI Holdings) designated Solana as its primary network for institutional stablecoin settlement, supporting USDC, USDT, PYUSD, EURC, and FDUSD. SoFi announced an enterprise fiat and stablecoin banking service built on Solana for its 15M members. Shinhan Card, South Korea's largest card issuer, signed an MOU with the Solana Foundation for stablecoin payment solutions. April ended with 167M SPL token-holder addresses, an all-time high, and total RWA value on Solana crossed $2.5B. Source: The Block, CoinDesk.
Bitcoin ETF Flows: Recovery Real, But Incomplete
Spot Bitcoin ETFs have pulled in $3.29B over the past two months, signaling renewed institutional demand. But the recovery follows a brutal streak: the latest six-day run of outflows shed $1.25B, and cumulative net inflows since January 2024 sit at $58.72B, still below the $61.19B peak from October. BTC traded flat near $77,350 after a broad recovery in risk assets. The Fear and Greed index returned to Neutral, options put/call ratio dropped to 0.41, and liquidations hit their lowest level in weeks. Source: CoinDesk, The Block.
SEC Delays Tokenized Stocks Exemption
The SEC postponed its planned "innovation exemption" that would have allowed crypto firms to trade tokenized versions of U.S. equities. The framework was expected the week of May 18 but hit a wall after pushback from stock exchange executives. The sticking point: a provision permitting third-party tokens, digital representations of shares issued without the underlying company's approval. Critics warn this creates problems for dividends and shareholder voting. Commissioner Hester Peirce stressed the scope was limited to digital representations of existing securities, not synthetics. No new timeline has been announced. Source: Bloomberg, Decrypt.
Bank of America Discloses $53M in Crypto ETF Holdings
BofA's Q1 2026 Form 13F revealed positions across Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETFs totaling $53M. The bulk sits in BlackRock's IBIT ($37M, up from 719K to 972K shares). Ethereum exposure shrank to $1.06M in BlackRock's ETHA. Solana exposure remains minimal via Volatility Shares ETFs. Against a $1.37T portfolio it's a rounding error, but the trend line is clear: every quarter, the allocation grows. Source: CoinGape, Yahoo Finance.
DeFi Security: $770M+ Lost Year-to-Date
April was the worst month for DeFi exploits in 2026. KelpDAO lost $292M after an attacker fed false data to a single LayerZero bridge verifier, draining 116,500 rsETH. North Korean operatives spent six months infiltrating Drift Protocol before stealing $285M. Wasabi Protocol lost $5M across Ethereum, Base, Berachain, and Blast via a compromised admin key with no timelock or multisig. The pattern is shifting: operational security and infrastructure failures now cause more damage than smart contract bugs. Source: CoinDesk, The Block, Rekt News.
