Solana's Alpenglow Consensus Overhaul Is Live on Testnet Anza activated Alpenglow, the largest consensus upgrade in Solana's history, on a community validator test cluster on May 11. The overhaul replaces both Proof of History and Tower BFT with two new protocol components designed to cut transaction finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to 100-150 milliseconds. If testing goes well, SIMD-525 would also reduce slot times from 400ms down to 200ms in stages. Mainnet target is late 2026. For yield farmers, faster finality means tighter liquidation protection and more responsive oracle updates across lending protocols. (Source: CoinDesk, Anza)
Jito Labs Launches JTX Self-Custody Trading Platform Jito unveiled JTX at the Solana Accelerate conference in Miami. The platform targets "prosumer" traders who want CEX-style tools (stop-loss, TradingView charts, preset strategies) without giving up custody. Spot trading for verified Solana assets goes first, with perpetual futures and prediction markets on the roadmap. 80% of protocol revenue flows back to the protocol, benefiting JTO holders. Jito remains the largest DeFi protocol on Solana by TVL. (Source: CoinDesk, Fortune)
Bridge Exploits Top $328M in May Alone PeckShield tracked eight major cross-chain bridge hacks through mid-May, totaling $328.6 million. The biggest: KelpDAO's LayerZero V2 rsETH route drained for $292M in April due to a weak 1-of-1 RPC quorum default. In May, THORChain lost $10.8M across nine chains and the Verus-Ethereum bridge lost $11.5M. The Verus hacker returned $8.5M after a bounty deal. 2026 is on pace to set a new record for DeFi losses.
