Truth Social Withdraws Bitcoin ETF Filing From SEC
Trump Media & Technology Group pulled its Truth Social Bitcoin ETF application from the SEC on May 19, along with two related filings for a Bitcoin & Ethereum ETF and a Crypto Blue Chip ETF. Sponsor Yorkville America cited a shift to a different regulatory framework, but analysts point to a simpler problem: the spot Bitcoin ETF market is saturated. U.S. spot BTC ETFs have absorbed $57.4 billion in cumulative inflows since January 2024, and Morgan Stanley now offers a product at 0.14% annual expense ratio. There was no room left at the table. CLARITY Act Advances to Senate Floor With 100+ Amendments Pending
The Senate Banking Committee passed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act 15-9 on May 14, clearing the biggest legislative hurdle for U.S. crypto regulation this year. Senators Gallego (D-AZ) and Alsobrooks (D-MD) crossed party lines to support the bill. Over 100 amendments were filed, covering sanctions enforcement, CBDC bans, stablecoin reward rules, and a contested ethics provision targeting government officials with crypto business interests. The Van Hollen ethics amendment failed 11-13 and remains the main unresolved issue before a full Senate vote. If passed, the bill still needs reconciliation with the House version approved last fall. Solana Alpenglow Targets 150ms Finality on Mainnet
Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko confirmed that the Alpenglow consensus upgrade is live on a community test cluster and targeting mainnet deployment in Q2 2026. The upgrade introduces Votor, which can finalize blocks in 100 to 150 milliseconds (down from 12.8 seconds), and Rotor, a more efficient data relay protocol. If the rollout holds, Solana would achieve sub-second finality at scale, a significant edge for DeFi applications where settlement speed matters. (Source: CryptoNews)
Dartmouth Endowment Discloses $14.5M Crypto ETF Position
Dartmouth College's $9 billion endowment revealed a $14.5 million allocation to crypto ETFs, including $3.3 million in the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF. It is one of the first Ivy League endowments to publicly disclose a position in a Solana staking product. The move signals growing comfort among institutional allocators with staked asset exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. (Source: Bitcoin Foundation)
Solana RWA TVL Crosses $2B
Tokenized real-world assets on Solana have crossed $2 billion in total value locked, driven by treasury bill tokens and tokenized credit products from protocols like Ondo and Superstate. The milestone positions Solana as the second-largest chain for RWA after Ethereum. Ondo alone is up 50% in 30 days as institutional demand for on-chain treasury exposure continues to grow. Ethereum Liquidations Hit $563M as Macro Pressure Builds
On May 18, Ethereum traders lost over $563 million in liquidations as ETH dropped on inflation concerns. April CPI came in at 3.8%, the highest since September 2023, pushing risk assets lower. ETH has since stabilized around $2,130, but the event underscores how sensitive leveraged DeFi positions remain to macro data. Roughly 30% of all ETH is now staked across 1.1 million validators, with BlackRock's staking-enabled ETHB product launched in March adding institutional demand. DeFi Exploit Count Hits 14 in May
The Echo Protocol exploit on Monad's eBTC drained approximately $816,000, making it the 14th DeFi exploit this month. It follows a THORChain vault breach ($10M+) on May 15 and a Verus-Ethereum Bridge attack ($11.58M) days later. May is shaping up as one of the worst months for DeFi security in 2026, following the massive $292M KelpDAO exploit in April that exposed systemic bridge vulnerabilities.
